9. Password change and reset

Who can do it: every staff member, for their own password.

Before you start

  • Your new password must be strong and unique. Do not reuse a password from another service.
  • Check you have access to your work email.

Steps to reset a forgotten password

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot password?.
  2. On Reset your password, type your work email in Email address.
  3. Submit the form. DFFMS sends an email. It gives the same reply whether or not the email has an account, so nobody can guess who has an account.
  4. Open the email and click the reset link. The link lasts 30 minutes.
  5. Type your new password and confirm it.
  6. Save. You will receive a notice that your password was changed.

What happens next

  • All your other sessions are signed out. Only the new sign-in remains.
  • If you have two-step security, the sign-in asks for your authenticator code.

Common problems

  • The reset link has expired. Ask for a new one. Request it again from the sign-in page.
  • You asked for many resets. DFFMS allows only 3 reset requests every 5 minutes. Wait, then try again.
  • You did not ask for the reset. Someone may be trying to get into your account. Tell your administrator at once. Change your password from the reset link, and check the audit trail (section 13).

Note on changing a password while signed in. During this review no separate "change password" page was found in the portal. Use the reset flow above. Your administrator can confirm whether a page has been added since.
