3. Who holds the money
DFFMS never holds investors' money. DFFMS is the record. The money is held by others:
| Party | What it does |
|---|---|
| Custodian bank | Holds the cash. For SCAFI, the custodian is Sterling Bank. |
| Trustee | Protects the investors' interests. |
| Fund manager | Values and manages the investments. |
| Auditor | Checks the accounts each year. |
| DFFMS | Keeps the register, the approvals and the monitoring. |
When you open a scheme, you type in the names of the trustee, custodian, fund manager and auditor. These names are shown on the scheme card.
DFFMS also keeps its own ledger accounts for each scheme. You do not need to manage them. They are:
- {code}-CUSTODY (what the custodian holds)
- {code}-UNITHOLDERS (what is owed to unit holders)
- {code}-DISTRIBUTABLE ("income distributed")
- {code}-WHT (withholding tax owed to the tax authority)
